What is PressReader?

PressReader offers access to more than 6,000 newspapers and magazines from over 120 countries in 60 languages, and even includes the Hawaii Tribune Herald and West Hawaii Today. All you need is your Hawaii State Public Library System library card!

How do I use PressReader?

  1. Click on PressReader
  2. Click on Sign in at top right corner of the page
  3. Click on Library Card
  4. Select Library : Hawaii State Public Library System
  5. Type in your library card number and pin
  6. Click on Sign in

PressReader Account

PressReader is a robust news platform that offers the ability to create customized collections, alerts based on topics of interest, and to comment and share thoughts with others about content. To take advantage of all of the features, you can create a PressReader account after you click on Sign in. Click on New User and sign up with your email address and create a password.

PressReader App

The PressReader App is a nice tool to use if you would like to download newspapers and magazines to your smart device and read later. The app is available for Apple or Android.

Because the PressReader App does not enable you to login using your library card, you will need to add some information to your account. Please use these simple directions to create the necessary login information to use the app:

  1. Click on PressReader
  2. Click on Sign in at top right corner of the page
  3. Click on Library Card
  4. Select Library : Hawaii State Public Library System
  5. Type in your library card number and pin
  6. Click on Sign in
  7. Once logged in, click on the account name located at the top right (next to search bar)
  8. Click on Manage Account
  9. In the Manage Account settings, Edit your email address and Create a password you would like to use to sign in on the PressReader App.
  10. Click on the account name located at the top right (next to the search bar)
  11. Click on “Sign out”

Once you have done this, you can launch the app on your smart device and login with your email address and password.

Downloading Content to the App

If you are in any one of our 50 library branches and open the PressReader App, you will be able to automatically download any publication that you would like to read.

If you are NOT in one of our 50 library branches, the process is a bit different. You will need to login to PressReader via any Internet browser. Then follow these steps:

  1. Click on PressReader
  2. Click on Sign in at top right corner of the page
  3. Click on Library Card
  4. Select Library : Hawaii State Public Library System
  5. Type in your library card number and pin
  6. Click on Sign in
  7. Find the publication that you want to download and click on Open the PressReader App. 
  8. Under the Issue will be delivered to click on your smart device and then click on done.

When you open your PressReader App, click on Publications and the publication issue should appear in My Publications. Click on the down arrow under the publication to download.

When I start to use PressReader, it’s now showing that I need to pay for issues? What should I do?

PressReader provides access for 24 hours at a time. If you have remained logged in for more than 24 hours, the access to the collection shifts to paying. Simply log out and log back in, and you will regain access again to the content under the Hawaii State Public Library System subscription.

How do I know what publications are available?

After you login, simply click on the  in the top left corner, and then click on publications.
