Ishida will present three different storytelling programs incorporating magic and origami. “Since both magic and reading use the power of imagination, you can make magic and stories happen,” said Ishida. “Imagination is also a main ingredient in making Origami and reading stories. In Origami, you fold paper into a delicate model creating something out of nothing by using your power of imagination. In reading, your imagination allows you to see, feel, hear, and smell the stories. ”

These free programs will amaze, dazzle and delight participants as Ishida makes the stories come alive! Check out times and locations for the following upcoming programs:

  • Wondrous Stories through Magical Papers Kamishibai (“Paper-Theatre”)-style stories, incorporating magic tricks and paper art forms including Origami and Pop-Up Arts.
  • Story Circus – Experience a 3-ring Story Circus: Balloon Haiku (balloon animals come to life with Haiku), Storygami (storytelling with Origami), and Storytelling with Magic! Then children will learn a simple magic trick to perform at home.
  • Origami in Motion – Learn to make amusing action origami which animates to fly, flip, jump and snap!

The Friends of the Library of Hawaii is generously sponsoring these programs. The program schedule is subject to change.
