About

Welcome to the Laupahoehoe Public and School Library! Designed by Richard S. Matsunaga and Associates, we opened in 1973 but earthquake damage closed us for nearly a year. We reopened in 1974 on the campus of the Laupahoehoe Community Public Charter School. We are one of the few Hawaii Island libraries to offer a meeting room for public use.

Family Story Time logo

Join us on Wednesday mornings in the children’s section for a simple and sweet storytime. We’ll read a few stories together, as well as play with some basic craft materials. This event is perfect for keiki 5 and under, along with their parent or caregiver.

Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication, or a modification of policies or procedures to participate in a program, service or activity should contact the library as soon as possible. Advance requests 48 hours or more before the event are encouraged, but not required.

Text: Poetry Night. Night sky with full moon and palm trees silhouetted against a mountain.

Join us on Monday evening in the adult room for a casual and relaxing poetry group. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own poetry or some of their favorites for open readings and discussions of all things poetry.

Attendance is free!
