Want to learn how to play chess with other enthusiasts? Come check out the Wahiawa Library Chess Club, meeting every Tuesday from 4pm to 6pm in the Wahiawa Library Children’s Room. Learn the basics and more with other veteran players and try out your new skills as you play against each other.

The first hour we will learn strategies and practice with puzzles, then you will have the opportunity to practice those skills the last hour! The library has two extra chess boards for anyone interested. The chess boards are first come, first serve. If you have any questions, feel free to call (808) 622-6345.

Join Wahiawa community members for our monthly book club where you can share and discuss what you’re reading. This program is run by members of the community, and the books discussed are chosen by participants.

This month’s book pick is Lady Tan’s Circle of Women, but we encourage attendees to discuss any books they have been reading and want to share. All genres and titles are welcome!

Calling all adventurers! Have you always wanted to learn how to play Dungeons & Dragons but didn’t know where or how to start? Aloha Adventurer’s Guild is here to help you embark on an epic quest! With their help, you will:

• Learn how to play Dungeons & Dragons 5th Ed from the ground up. No experience? No problem! Aloha Adventurer’s Guild has all the tools you need.
• Receive pre-generated character sheets and begin playing and learning almost immediately! If you’ve already made a character before, bring your character sheets! (Levels 1-3 preferred)
• Develop communication, teamwork, and creative skills with minimal stress in a judgement free zone! We’ll show you what to do to get the most out of your gameplay.
• Meet new friends and find people to play with that are as interested in the game as you are!
• Check out Wahiawa Library’s extensive Dungeons & Dragons collection of books and materials to help you master the game! We even have extra character sheets and handouts to help you learn!

Aloha Adventurer’s Guild will be in Wahiawa for three separate sessions during Spring 2024 (March, April, May) and will continue in the Fall depending on availability of volunteers. You do not need to attend all sessions, and you can join any time! If time and staffing allow, one of the librarians at Wahiawa will be continuing campaigns during the summer for up to six people at a time. Stop by the reference desk or call us at 808-622-6345 if you are interested in learning more!

All Dungeons & Dragons sessions will be held in Wahiawa Public Library’s meeting room. Please arrive on time to get the best experience from our interactive program.  Though this event is geared toward preteens and young adults, all levels and ages welcome! Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied for parent or guardian at all times.

This event is generously funded by the Friends of the Wahiawa Library and is made possible through volunteers of the Aloha Adventurer’s Guild.

Join members of the community two Thursdays of every month for knitting and talking story. This one-hour informal knitting group is open to veteran knitters and beginners alike! If you need any knitting supplies, be sure to make the members know, and they can help.

Every Friday at 11:00am, our volunteer job search expert will help you get started and give you resources to find employers in Hawaii so you can start your new career path!

Our volunteer can assist with the following:

• Email and computer setup so you can communicate with employers
• Job search tips
• Drafting or reviewing resumes
• Interview preparation advice
• And more!

Appointments may be made by calling 808-622-6345. Appointment slots are for 15 minutes, though the volunteer may be able to work with you longer depending on availability. Come learn popular and classic line dances in a fun, judgment free zone with other local dance enthusiasts! Follow along with simple dance instructions for popular line and non-line dances such as Electric Slide, Achy Breaky Heart, Chili Cha Cha, Staying Alive, and more! Each session will build upon the last one. This event is low stress and will get your blood pumping with some of the more challenging songs.

Depending on demand, Wahiawa Public Library will continue offering this program monthly. NOTE: The people running this program are dance enthusiasts who like to dance and are looking for others who love dancing like they do. There will be some minor dance instruction to introduce new dances. The goal of this program is to have fun and get moving!
