About

Welcome to the Waimea Public Library! Designed by architect Guy Rothwell, our 3,724 sq. ft. library is located on Kaumualii Highway across from Waimea High School. One of the smallest libraries in the state library system, Waimea Public Library supports a diverse and ever-changing community.

Ohana Readers and Imagination Library logosThe Waimea Public Library participates in ʻOhana Readers, a literacy program that focuses on reading with family as an affiliate program of Dolly Partonʻs Imagination Library. The program offers high-quality, age-appropriate Imagination Library books each month to children who are under the age of five.

Dolly Partonʻs Imagination Library program is a zip code based mailing program. Families must live in these specific Kauai zip codes to participate.

To register, click your ZIP code to download the registration form or visit the library. You may return the form by mail or drop it off at the branch. The participating library will also offer programs that complement the books the children receive, and will provide other activities to promote literacy and reading.

For more information, go to the ‘Ohana Readers website.

Upcoming events at this branch

Mother reading with young child

Families with children from birth to age 5 are welcome to play, read, and sing at the library!

For the first half hour, children can play with the library’s collection of toys. For the second half, the librarian will read aloud and share rhymes and songs (with help from the grown-ups!).

Please note that though this is a mixed-age group, and most stories are targeted toward toddlers and preschool-aged children. All young children must be accompanied by an adult caregiver.

Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication, or a modification of policies or procedures to participate in a program, service or activity should contact library staff as soon as possible. Advance requests 48 hours or more before the event are encouraged, but not required.

Do you need a gentle kickstart for that novel you’ve been meaning to write? Or would you like feedback on your work-in-progress? If so, consider joining our new writers’ group!

The West Side Writers’ Group is open to adults who write creative fiction, nonfiction, and/or poetry. We will begin with a writing warm-up, then the rest of our time is for sharing work and giving feedback.

Although writing is usually a solitary activity, it can be helpful to join a community that cares deeply about the written word. Please note that this is not a formal class, but a casual workshop to offer and receive encouragement.

For ages 18 and up.
