Learn about the Nisei soldiers of World War II through an interesting and informative four-panel exhibit which provides a brief history of the various military units, as well as information about several veterans who went on to become prominent leaders in Hawaii, including former Governor George R. Ariyoshi, U.S. Senator Spark M. Matsunaga and U.S. Senator Daniel K. Inouye. Hanaire of Sadou (Flower Vases of Tea Ceremony)

Hanaire made by Shofu Kai ceramists of the Hawaii Potters' Guild

This exhibit of traditional hanaire is presented by Shofu Kai, a group of ceramists at the Hawai’i Potters’ Guild who have been studying together to learn about the artistry of utensils used in the Japanese tea ceremony, a cornerstone of Japanese culture. The hanaire (flower vase) with chabana (flowers) and ojiku (scroll) are prominently displayed in the alcove of a tea room.  Each guest in a tea ceremony visits the alcove and respectfully views these tea utensils prior to the…
