May 20, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

kona cloud forest

The Community Seed Library (CSL), sponsored by the Friends of the Libraries, Kona (FOLK), presents “Being Forest Friendly” with Norman Bezona on Saturday, May 20, 10:00am to 11:00am at Kailua-Kona Public Library. Join us for an informative presentation about the cloud forest and the plants that grow within it. Learn about the Hawai’i Island Land Trust and the importance of forests to the Hawaiian ecosystem. With his extensive knowledge and experience, Norman will also offer suggestions for ways we can become more forest friendly and support efforts to maintain local woodlands.

Norman Bezona is a retired UH Cooperative Extension Agent with 30+ years of experience in the landscape and horticulture industry in Kona. He has lived in Kaloko Mauka for almost 40 years and has maintained, with his family, a 75-acre property at an elevation of 3,000 feet. Together they have been preserving native and other interesting species that grow in the cloud forest. Norman has conducted botanical and educational tours of his Kona Cloud Forest Sanctuary  since 1980 for tourists as well as locals. You can learn more about the sanctuary at: http://www.konacloudforest.com

If you have questions about the CSL or this presentation, please contact Kailua-Kona Public Library at 327-4327. Contact the library 15 days in advance to request a sign language interpreter or if special accommodations are needed. The program schedule is subject to change.
