The Hawaii and Pacific Section provides reference and readers' advisory services to a worldwide audience using a wide variety of resources: books, pamphlets, government documents, periodicals, maps, microforms, and electronic databases.  The Section covers all subjects pertaining to Hawaii, the South Pacific, Australia and New Zealand, as well as fiction, biographies, and magazines for these regions.

The Newspaper Index, a subject guide to the Honolulu Star-Bulletin and Honolulu Advertiser, is generated by this section.  The Hawaii Documents Center, also part of this section, acquires and distributes state and county government publications throughout the public library system.

Special collections, publications and services:

  • Bibliographies on ethnic groups, genealogy, history, and other special topics
  • Hawaii Documents Center: In compliance with HRS 93-1 to 93-5, documents produced by government in Hawaii are obtained, distributed and made available to the public through the public libraries.
  • Indexes and finding aids to a variety of resources, including government documents, major local newspapers, libraries, magazines, sheet music, pamphlets, legends, and yearbooks.
  • Collection development, consultation, and training services for the branches of the Hawaii State Public Library System.
