This section contains books on the fine arts, civic and landscape
art, architecture, applied arts, sculpture, drawing, fashion and
costumes, decorative arts, handicrafts, textile arts, interior
decoration, glass, furniture and accessories, painting and
paintings, graphic arts, printmaking and prints, photography and
photographs,
music, dance,
theater,
television and
film, indoor games,
and
sports. In addition,
it houses an extensive collection of musical scores (both classical
and popular) and sheet music, as well as a collection of movie and
TV screenplays (over 200 titles). It also includes a picture file of
artists and their works, portraits of famous people, past and
present, plus some other subjects such as animals, birds, fishes,
foreign countries, and musical instruments. A number of special
indexes, such as the Song Index, are available to
assist customers in their research.

The collection of AMR includes about 47,000 books, 400 pieces of
sheet music, 12,000 music score books, and 9,000 pictures, as well
as subscriptions to some 130 subject-related journals and serials.
(The journals and serials are housed in the
Serials Section.)
The Song Index: This is an in-house index on catalog
cards and on CD-ROM. It indicates the location of more than 45,000+
songs to be found in the section's music score books and sheet
music. It is the most used single resource in the section and has
enabled staff to find countless songs of yesteryear.
The Picture File: Valuable to students and teachers, this
collection contains over 9,000 pictures, clipped from periodicals,
posters, and other graphic sources and dry-mounted. It has served as
a period, style, and costume resource for numerous TV production
companies, including Hawaii Five-O and Magnum,
P.I.
A special note: Videocassettes, audiocassettes, DVD, and
compact discs are physically housed in the Audiovisual Unit and are
not in the Art, Music and Recreation printed materials area.
