Hundreds of studies involving
thousands of people have shown that one of the most important determinants of
health and longevity is a tendency to enjoy sensual pleasures on a regular
basis-so take a walk on the beach, stop and smell the Pikake, and eat a
chocolate or two.

BRAILLE
MAGAZINES ON THE WEB
What began only as a pilot test by NLS
(National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped) to put
grade 2 Braille files of books produced under contract by NLS as WebBraille a
few years ago, has now expanded to not only include books but to have most of
the Braille magazines available as part of the Braille online program. Access
to the Braille magazines by registered users of WebBraille began around March
of this year. If you currently subscribe and receive by direct mail your
Braille magazine and have a username and password to access WebBraille, you
don't need to cancel your direct mail subscription.
To subscribe to WebBraille and get a username
and password, contact LBPH. You need an e-mail account because an e-mail will
be sent to you when you are registered. After you receive this e-mail you can
begin using WebBraille to either read your books and/or magazines online with
your web browser or download the volumes of book(s) or magazine(s) to your
computer.
TSS
GOES 4-TRACK
The Transcribing Services Section of LBPH
recently acquired a new tape duplication machine that will allow us to put our
locally recorded books and magazines, now recorded on 2-tracks cassette at a
playback speed of 1-7/8 ips (inches per second), on to the 4-track 1-7/8 or
15/16 ips NLS Library of Congress cassette format that will play only in the
NLS cassette players issued free by LBPH. Having this new tape duplicator will
make us compliant to the amended copyright law and on par with the NLS produced
cassette books.
Do not take life too seriously; you will never get out of
it alive.

DESCRIPTIVE
VIDEOTAPES
For an enjoyable evening at home, just butter
some popcorn and borrow one of our Descriptive Videotapes. The Descriptive
Videotapes describe the visual elements and nuances of a movie without
interfering with the dialogue or sound effects. This greatly enhances your
movie enjoyment. It plays on a regular VHS videocassette recorder (VCR) and
goes extremely well with popcorn.
The videotapes may only be borrowed by those
who have been certified to use the National Library Service for the Blind and
Physically Handicapped (NLS) materials.
The loan period is 10 days and there are no
renewals. Only one videotape may be borrowed per person per
loan period.
Call LBPH for more information and to borrow
your tapes. *

LBPH does not provide the VCR or popcorn.
It isn't pollution that's harming the environment it's
the impurities in our air and water that are doing it.
