From January 1 to 31st, the Hawaii State Public Library System will participate in Beanstack’s Fourth Annual Winter Reading Challenge, “Books Like Us,” sponsored by Simon and Schuster. Centering on the theme of diversity, our winter reading challenge celebrates the transformative power of seeing oneself in a book. Explore titles by acclaimed national and local authors and reflect on your own personal story!

We challenge our patrons to collectively read at least 1 million minutes during the month and keep track of their reading on our Beanstack site at librarieshawaii.beanstack.org.

Thousands of libraries and schools across the nation will encourage their communities to read a target number of minutes and books. Help HSPLS as we vie for national prizes including book collections and virtual author visits. Ten (10) winning schools or libraries will each get a collection of fifty (50) books from the “Books Like Us” collection. Happy Reading!

Participating is as easy as 1-2-3!

  1. Sign up online or visit your local library.
  2. Read and log your minutes from January 1 to 31, 2021. Reading books, ebooks, graphic novels, magazines, newspapers and listening to audiobooks all count!
  3. Earn online badges for registering and for every 100 minutes of reading up to 1,000 minutes.
