About

Welcome to the Aiea Public Library! Designed by architect Glenn Miura of CDS International and built on the site of the former Aiea Sugar Mill, our library opened on July 19, 2014. Our $10.4 million library replaces the original library building at 99-143 Moanalua Road. It includes features to reduce electricity costs such as a high-efficiency air-conditioning system and photovoltaic solar panels. In August 2014, Aiea Public Library was awarded the coveted Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Certification.

Upcoming events at this branch

Come join the artists of Comic Jam Hawaii and get your draw on! In this informal social gathering of local artists (professional, aspiring, and hobbyist), participants can have fun and participate where they’re comfortable. Artists do collaborative cartoons, illustrations, and sketches while talking story. All abilities and levels are welcome. Drawings are collected at the end of each session and scanned into their Facebook Group page, Comic Jam Hawaii.

Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication, or a modification of policies or procedures to participate in a program, service, or activity should contact library staff as soon as possible. Advance requests 48 hours or more before the event are encouraged, but not required. All programs are subject to change. See a schedule of upcoming events at librarieshawaii.org/

4 people each holding a dog

This program is designed to give people a chance to enjoy reading aloud with no pressure and no judgment. However, if you don’t want to read to the dog, you can just visit. The registered therapy dogs of K9 Therapets Hawaii visit every 2nd Thursday of the month!  All the dogs that participate are specially trained and can help kids of all ages practice reading aloud without judgment.  If you want a comfortable setting to practice your reading fluency, reading comprehension, or comfort with canines in general, this is the event for you.

A sign-up sheet for 20 minute sessions with a dog will be available on the meeting room door on the day of the program. Walk-ins welcome as space permits.
