About

Welcome to the Lanai Public and School Library! Designed by architect Edwin T. Murayama, our library opened its doors to the public on Oct. 15, 1975. Our public and school library is the seventh such facility in the state and the first in Maui county. Our library is the only place on the island that provides free Internet access and Wi-Fi for library card holders.

Ohana Readers and Imagination Library logosThe Lanai Public and School Library participates in ʻOhana Readers, a literacy program that focuses on reading with family as an affiliate program of Dolly Partonʻs Imagination Library. The program offers high-quality, age-appropriate Imagination Library books each month to children who are under the age of five. Dolly Partonʻs Imagination Library program is a zip code based mailing program. Families must live in the Lanai zip code (96763) to participate.

To register, download the registration form or visit the branch. You may return the form by mail or drop it off at the branch. The participating library will also offer programs that complement the books the children receive, and will provide other activities to promote literacy and reading.

For more information, visit the ‘Ohana Readers website.

4 musicians holding string instruments standing side by side

Join us for an afternoon dive into the world of string quartet music with the Galliard String Quartet. Experience the emotional power and intimacy of the string quartet as we unravel its 300 year old history. From heart-wrenching harmonies to uplifting melodies, chamber music has the unparalleled ability to stir the deepest of emotions within us through dramatic conversations. Join us on this captivating journey through classical, jazz, Hawaiian tunes, and beloved movie scores, and feel the transformative energy that only chamber music can evoke!

Fueled by love and passion, and sometimes tea and coffee, the Galliard String Quartet’s romance for the music of Beethoven, Brahms, Schubert, Shostakovich, and many others is unparalleled. Founded in 1982, the Galliard is known throughout the islands for their uncompromising commitment to performing classical and modern music of the highest caliber. All four members of the present Galliard quartet are members of the Hawai‘i Symphony Orchestra and are also seasoned teachers and music educators in the community. Recent highlights and collaborations include award-winning vocalist Raiatea Helm, acclaimed pianists Wu Han and Joyce Yang, conductor and silent film historian Rick Benjamin, and composers Jon Magnussen, Michael-Thomas Foumai, and Takuma Itoh.

Orange fish in underwater scene made from trash materials

Join visiting teaching artists from Hui No’eau Visual Art Center on Maui, for a fun & unique arts experience.

Participants will create a scene depicting their favorite part about living on planet Earth with found objects. Participants are encouraged to bring found objects such as bottlecaps, egg cartons, zippers, yarn, corks, old keys, CDs, and other small objects from around the house.
