About

Welcome to the Liliha Public Library! Designed by Steven Oyakawa, a former student of Frank Lloyd Wright, our library opened on Dec. 12, 1966. Our uniquely-built library features skylights, rounded corners, and generous allotments of space for all parts of the building to create an ideal mid-sized library. Liliha Public Library is the only library in HSPLS with roof-top parking.

Man wearing a wetsuit and snorkel, smiling broadly at the camera

Join deep-sea biologist and explorer Aaron Judah in a crash course on the deep-sea and the tools scientists use to explore it. Meet some of the denizens of the deep – from angler fishes and cookiecutter sharks, to the fangtooth and snipe eel (that you can hold in your hands!). We’ll also check out videos from baited cameras and remotely operated vehicles that scientists use to explore diverse habitats and identify unique species. Aaron will guide you through how these species are able to survive the extreme environments, and how they benefit humanity and the functioning of the ocean ecosystem. We’ll end off with a group discussion to share your ideas on what the deep ocean does for you and how we can best conserve it for the future.

Interested in doing DIY repair and home improvement projects such as: plumbing leaks, toilet repair, unclogging a drain, electrical wiring, replacing light fixtures, mounting pictures or televisions, drywall repair, installing shelving, roof maintenance and more?

Essential to all these projects are the proper tools.  In this program, learn about the “must have” tools to have in your own home tool box to tackle common household repairs and DIY projects.  Greg Young is a Honolulu Tool Library Volunteer, Retired Engineer, Lifelong DIYer and constant tinkerer in his home.
