A Crash Course in Native Plants & Ecosystems of the Hawaiian Islands

January 30, 2025 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

The Hawaiian Islands are the most isolated island chain on Earth, a fact that has given rise to an extraordinary level of endemism among its native plants. But what does that mean, exactly? What makes a plant “native”? If you’re curious to explore these questions and discover both the common and rare native plants of Hawaii—and where to find them—join Chuck Chimera, botanist and native plant enthusiast with the Hawaii Invasive Species Council, for an engaging talk about Hawaii’s unique flora.

Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication or a modification of policies or procedures to participate in a program, service, or activity should contact library staff as soon as possible. Advance requests of 48 hours or more before the event are encouraged, but not required. All programs are subject to change. For a list of upcoming library events, visit HSPLS Events Calendar.
