America 250: Sharing the Spirit of America – A Worldwide Reading Event of the U.S. Declaration of Independence

Kaimuki Public Library is pleased to invite you to attend a program related to America250 and the Declaration of Independence – “Sharing the Spirit of America”. “Sharing the Spirit of America,” is a nationwide program initiated and sponsored by the Hawaii America250 Commission. On July 8, 2026, communities in all 50 States and 5 Territories, the District of Columbia, and Minor Outlying Islands of the United States and in other countries around the world will read the U.S. Declaration of Independence together, at the same time, commemorating the first public reading on July 8, 1776, exactly 250 years ago. Kaimuki Public Library will be one of several locations in the state of Hawaii that will be participating in this worldwide event at 12:00 pm (HST)  

The program will consist of two parts:

11:00 am (HST) – The Declaration of Independence: How Did It Happen? What Does It Say/Mean?

12:00 pm (HST) – Reading of the Declaration of Independence

This program is suitable for all ages. Children need to be accompanied by an adult, preferably a parent or legal guardian.  Space in the meeting room is limited. You may reserve a spot by either calling 808-733-8422 or signing up in person at the Adult Reference Desk. 

Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication, or a modification of policies or procedures to participate in a program, service, or activity should contact library staff as soon as possible.
