Hāmākua Homestead Series: The Milk Cow at the Heart of Your Homestead with Grant Gerrish

March 17, 2025 @ 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm

A man in a hat in a pasture.

Join the Laupāhoehoe P&S Library, the Honeybee Education Program and the Laupāhoehoe Train Museum as they present the second in a five-part series with a focus on animal homesteading.

17 Mar: The Milk Cow at the Heart of Your Homestead with Grant Gerrish
Grant will explain his passion for dairy cows from his many many years of homesteading in Paauilo.  A retired Biology Professor at UH Hilo, Grant has a unique experience that incorporates science and heart-felt connection in his farming operations.

During this presentation, Grant will talk about the past 20 years plus of raising dairy cows on a small family farm.  There will be time for questions; if you ever wanted to raise a milk cow of your own, Grant can help you understand what it takes to understand the ins and outs of dairy cows.

Join us at the library for the rest of the series:

  • 24 Feb: Raising Goats, Homesteading Hawaii Style with Juliet Higgins
  • 24 Mar: Introduction to Pastured Poultry with Brittany Anderson
  • 31 Mar: Raising Healthy Sheep and a Woolcraft Demonstration with Leila Gerrish
  • 21 Apr: Regenerative Beekeeping in Hawaii with Jenny Bach

Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication, or a modification of policies or procedures to participate in a program, service, or activity should contact library staff as soon as possible. Advance requests 48 hours or more before the event are encouraged, but not required. All programs are subject to change.
