Author Talk: Dr. Kellie Nakamura – Legacies of Incarceration

March 7, 2026 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Legacies of Incarceration book cover

Join us for a fascinating talk by Dr. Kelli Nakamura on Saturday, March 7th from 2pm-3pm. Dr. Nakamura is a History Professor at Kapiolani Community College and author of the recently re-published Legacies of Incarceration: The World War II Experiences of Hawaii’s Japanese.

Although a lot of research and personal accounts from mainland internment camps such as Manzanar have been published, less is known about the stories of Hawaii’s own internment camps and the internees they held. Coinciding with the upcoming anniversary of the most infamous of these local camps, Honouliuli, being named a national historic site, Dr. Nakamura’s talk will highlight research from her book, a work that finally sheds a light on Hawaii’s own role in this tragic chapter of our nation’s history.

Sponsored by the Friends of Mililani Public Library.

Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication, or a modification of policies or procedures to participate in a program, service, or activity should contact library staff as soon as possible.
