Banned Books Week graphic

Celebrate Banned Books Week by reading a banned book! Open to teens 13+ years old and all adults. Read one of 40 banned books on display at Kailua-Kona Public Library. Write a brief review of the book and be entered into a drawing for a $25 Kona Stories gift certificate or a $25 book sale gift certificate from the Friends of the Libraries, Kona (FOLK). A total of four prizes will be awarded. See library staff for entry forms. The contest is open from September 11 – October 20, 2018. Winners will be announced on October 23. Banned Books Week is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read. Typically held during the last week of September, it spotlights current and historical attempts to censor books in libraries and schools.

All programs are subject to change. If you require an auxiliary aid or accommodation due to a disability, please contact the library at least 7 days before the program date.
