August’s Book Club pick is The Wide Wide Sea: Imperial Ambition, First Contact and the Fateful Final Voyage of Captain James Cook by Hampton Sides. This riveting nonfiction book is a bravura account of Cook’s last voyage, exploring the question of how Cook, who was unique among captains for his respect for Indigenous cultures, came to be killed in a conflict with one.
Copies are available at the library’s circulation desk. All books we read are suggested and voted for by attendees of the group.
