book cover

May’s Book Club pick is The Art of Hearing Heartbeats by Jan-Philipp Sendker. When a successful New York lawyer suddenly disappears without a trace, neither his wife nor his daughter Julia has any idea where he might be…until they find a love letter he wrote many years ago, to a Burmese woman they have never heard of. Intent on solving the mystery and coming to terms with her father’s past, Julia decides to travel to the village where the woman lived. There she uncovers a tale of unimaginable hardship, resilience, and passion that will reaffirm the reader’s belief in the power of love to move mountains (summary from Goodreads).

All books read are chosen by members of the group. All are welcome to join at any time, and to attend the meetings for any books that interest them. Copies of the book are available at Honokaa Library’s circulation desk.

Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication or a modification of policies or procedures to participate in a program, service, or activity should contact library staff as soon as possible. Advance requests of 48 hours or more before the event are encouraged, but not required. All programs are subject to change.
