Celebrate Summer Reading! Our theme is E Heluhelu Kākou: Mele, and Hawaii’s public libraries will be celebrating the power of storytelling through music, chants, and poetry.
Attend a performance that explores the deep cultural roots of the erhu—a traditional Chinese instrument shaped by centuries of poetry, art, and philosophy. Suitable for all ages, this 45-minute event offers a musical journey to ancient China, where timeless stories are brought to life through the expressive power of the erhu. The performance features Dr. Sun Hui, Excellence Prize winner of Taiwan’s National Erhu Competition, who has captivated audiences worldwide at venues across Europe, the Americas, and Taiwan.
Sponsored by the Friends of the Library of Hawai‘i. This is a production of the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa Outreach College’s Statewide Cultural Extension Program with additional funding provided by the National Endowment for the Arts, Hawai‘i State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, and the University of Hawai‘i.
