Community Seed Library Program: Aquaponics

September 23, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

aquaponics

We invite you to attend this free program, presented by Vernon Byrd, to learn about the basics of aquaponics in various settings, including the selection of plants and fish, operational costs and expected outputs, and how to manage pests, nutrient deficiencies and disease. There will be a question and answer session at the end of the presentation for further learning.

Vernon Byrd has a background in conservation biology. He has worked for the past seven years as the leader of the technology and science group at the University of the Nations, Kona Campus. His focus is on empowering people in developing countries to meet their basic needs for food, energy, water and shelter through knowledge sharing, which includes partnerships with other University of the Nations campuses worldwide. Vernon has also previously worked for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in Alaska and Hawai’i.

This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Libraries, Kona (F.O.L.K.). The program schedule is subject to change. Contact the hosting library 15 days in advance to request a sign language interpreter or if special accommodations are needed.
