Is your child stressed, anxious, struggling in school, or having difficulty managing their emotions? Learning mindfulness can help kids learn to cope with challenging life events by teaching them awareness of self and the outer world. Outcomes can include improved empathy and compassion, listening skills, and even better school performance.

This 45-minute class taught by professional clinical psychologist Dr. Patrick Jichaku, Ph.D. will teach and provide an opportunity for children to practice mindful calming and attentional skills. We will use activities and exercises to show how to practice mindful awareness and to apply and integrate it into every day family life.

Event will be held in library meeting room. Current limit of 12 participants. Please call the library at 808-622-6345 to register. Guests are encouraged to bring their own yoga mats; however, the library does have extra mats for guests who do not have them. Recommended for ages 5 and up. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Teens are welcome to attend as well.

About the Speaker: Dr. Patrick Jichaku is a faculty clinical psychologist at the UH-Manoa Counseling and Student Development Center. He has taught mindful awareness methods for UH undergraduate and graduate students (and a few professors) since 2009. Dr. Jichaku started his own daily meditation practice 47 years ago and was taught to meditate by several excellent and traditional Zen meditation teachers.
