January 22, 2025 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Join USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory Scientist-in-Charge Ken Hon, as he summarizes earthquakes and eruptions over the past year in Hawaii, highlighting hazards that can impact you and how you can participate in citizen science.

Did you know that earthquake hazard in the State of Hawaii is among the highest in the United States? During this past year, there were 3 earthquakes larger than 4.5 felt throughout the Hawaiian Islands. Hawaii also experiences frequent volcanic eruptions, including 2 recently at Kīlauea volcano.

Hon will host a table for an hour before the presentation, and be available to answer questions. Come talk story, browse resources, and learn more about the volcanoes in your backyard.

Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication, or a modification of policies or procedures to participate in a program, service or activity should contact library staff as soon as possible. Advance requests 48 hours or more before the event are encouraged, but not required. Program schedule is subject to change.
