Location: Hawaiʻi & Pacific section of the Adult Reading Room
Learn about the Nisei (second generation Japanese American) soldiers of World War II through an interesting and informative six-panel pop-up exhibit which provides a brief history of the various military units, as well as information about veterans who went on to become prominent leaders in Hawaiʻi.
In honor of both Memorial Day and Veterans Day, this pop-up exhibit was created by the non-profit organization Nisei Veterans Legacy and may be viewed during library hours through Friday November 13, 2026. In addition, Byrnes Yamashita, president of the organization, will also have a presentation on the Nisei soldiers, their present and post-war achievements and share why this is still relevant for modern day Hawaiʻi and the nation.
Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication, or a modification of policies or procedures to participate in a program, service, or activity should contact library staff as soon as possible. Advance requests 48 hours or more before the event are encouraged, but not required. All programs are subject to change. See a schedule of upcoming events on the HSPLS Events Calendar.
