For the month of December, the Hawaii State Library Book Group will discuss Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse.

In this classic, Siddhartha, a Brahmin, casts off his wealth and sets out to find enlightenment, meeting many interesting people along the way including the beautiful courtesan Kamala and Guatama Buddha himself. First published in German in 1922 before being translated and brought to the U.S. in 1951, Siddhartha interweaves the different philosophies of Eastern religions, Jungian archetypes, and Western individualism to address universal themes of the human condition.

The HSL Book Group meets on the third Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Language, Literature, and History Section. New members are always welcome. No registration necessary.
