An event every month that begins at 8:00 am on day 1 of the month, repeating until December 1, 2023

In the 1880s, King Kalākaua sent 18 young Hawaiians to Italy, Scotland, England, China, Japan, and US to become future leaders of the Hawaiian Kingdom.

They studied engineering, medicine, art, music, military science and foreign languages. Program resumed in 2018.

The Hawaiian Youths Abroad exhibit will be up until December.

This display is generously on loan from the Native Hawaiian Student Services, UH Mānoa. 

Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication, or a modification of policies or procedures to participate in a program, service or activity should contact library staff as soon as possible. Advance requests 48 hours or more before the event are encouraged, but not required. Program schedule is subject to change.
