PROGRAM POSTPONED – How does Your Garden Grow: Growing Shiitake Mushrooms

March 24, 2020 @ 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm

Shiitake Mushrooms

NOTE: A new date will be announced at the appropriate time

Volcano resident Arthur Wierzchos shares his trials and successes of growing shiitake mushrooms off grid in an outdoor backyard setting. He reveals what you can do to grow your own, with emphasis on permaculture principles in his agro-forestry practices. Come and gain some inspirations for self-sufficiency and ways of turning our perceived problems into solutions that feed ourselves and care for the sensitive ecological networks unique to Hawaii.

Arriving here in 2005, Arthur initially became a lava junky, and later formed a special connection with the natural wonders of Hawaii. During a decade of leading interpretive explorations throughout the Island he has won awards for interpretation and photography, while gaining permaculture certification and continuing his studies in agro-forestry and self-sufficiency.

If you need an auxillary aid/service or other accommodation due to a disability, please contact the library at least 7 days prior to the program date. We will make every attempt to fulfill all requests for accommodations. All programs are subject to change. For a list of upcoming library events, visit www.librarieshawaii.org/events.
