Ke Kai Ola – Hawaiian Monk Seal Conservation

January 28, 2026 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Hawaiian monk seal, open mouth, in water

Learn how seals are rescued and rehabilitated, what to do when you see a Hawaiian monk seal on the beach, and how volunteers interact with people on beaches to educate them.

Ke Kai Ola (“The Healing Sea”) is the only hospital dedicated to the care of Hawaiian monk seals, the most endangered seal in the US.  It provides rehabilitation to sick and injured animals, outreach surrounding seals in the wild, and educational programs to students around the Big Island.

Find out how you can get involved with our various programs including animal care, response, and education!

Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication, or a modification of policies or procedures to participate in a program, service, or activity should contact library staff as soon as possible. Advance requests 48 hours or more before the event are encouraged, but not required.
