September 13, 2022 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Malia Heimuli of Kua’āina Ulu ‘Auamo and Chef Willie Barrera of ‘Iwa Eats will share their mana’o about limu and ulu.

This is the year of LIMU and a new species of seaweed was just discovered 300 feet down in the Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument. It has been named after pioneering conservationist Laura Kalaukapu Thompson, also the mother of master Hōkūleʻa  navigator Nainoa Thompson.

Ulu (breadfruit), a  prized plant brought to Hawai’i by voyaging Polynesians aboard their sailing vessels, is having a resurgence with new recipes and uses.   Background, hands-on demonstrations, with Q & A to follow.
