In his book American Grit, John Suzuki tells the unforgettable story of Americans who were incarcerated in American concentration camps solely because of their Japanese ancestry. Many of these incarcerated men volunteered to fight for America during World War II in the 442nd Regimental Combat Team.
Suzuki chronicles this chapter of the Japanese American experience through Shiro Kashino, who volunteered from the Minidoka camp in Idaho and became one of the most decorated soldiers of the famed unit.
