Salt Lake-Moanalua Public Library’s Magazine Room transforms into a Theater, complete with commentator, popcorn and conversation.

Film buff Dan Devaney, is eager to share and discuss some of our favorite musical films. Dan is a retired attorney who practiced business law in Hawaii for more than 30 years. In college he majored in Asian Studies and spent a year in Tianjin and Beijing; he now spends much of his time gardening, cooking, learning to work on cars, & of course watching movies.

This musical comedy follows silent film stars Don Lockwood and Lina Lamont as they transition to the world of talkies. Set against the backdrop of Hollywood’s shift to sound films, it features iconic dance numbers, including Gene Kelly’s unforgettable “Singin’ in the Rain” sequence, and explores themes of love, fame, and the challenges of adapting to new technology. Known for its charm, humor, and dazzling choreography, it remains one of the greatest musicals of all time.
