A mythic adventure set around 2,000 years ago across a series of islands in the South Pacific. The film follows the journey of a spirited teenager named Moana as she meets the once-mighty demi-god Maui, and together they traverse the open ocean, encountering enormous fiery creatures and impossible odds.
In keeping with the theme of this year’s summer reading challenge of Mele and in recognition of the Hawaiian language as an official language of the state of Hawaiʻi, this movie will be shown in the Hawaiian language (ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi) with English subtitles. Hawaiian language translation was provided by UH Manoa Director of the Institute of Hawaiian Language Research Puakea Nogelmeier, and his team.
This film is rated PG by the Motion Picture Association for some scary images and brief thematic elements. Parental guidance is suggested.
