Outer Space-“Ology”

April 24, 2018 @ 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm

Astronaut in space
Can I get to outer Space? Where does it begin? What does it smell like? Can I see outer-space? Space, astronomy, and spaceships will ever spark the imagination in every generation. On April 24 at 4:30pm the library -Ology series will host Kevin Cornwell, an amateur astronomer and rocketry enthusiast, who will guide us to discover the answers. Through hands-on activities, rockets, and telescopes we’ll take a personal journey into outer-space. For thousands of years the stars have guided mankind across the deserts, across the seas, and to the moon and back. Retrace their steps with us as we learn of the wonders of Outer Space.
– Launch a Model Rocket into near-space
– Observe surface features (sunspots) on earth’s closest star
– Learn what it’s like to live on other planets
– Hear stories of the stars mingled with American Indian flute music
– Build and learn to use a planisphere to locate space objects
– Discover where Apollo Astronauts practiced moon walking here on Hawaii
All programs are subject to change. If you require an auxiliary aid or accommodation due to a disability, please contact the library at least 7 days before the program date.
