Pochibukuro: A Creative Reuse Activity

July 22, 2018 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

Pochibukuro image

Japanese children frequently receive monetary gifts in little envelopes called “pochibukuro.”  The New Year’s pochibukuro is called “otoshidama.”  This pragmatic practice has other applications as well.  Learn to make 3 different, simple pochibukuro from found materials, then size them up for other purposes.  Examples of varied uses for these envelopes and other ways of creating them will be shared.

Location: Meeting Room (Ground Floor)

All supplies will be provided for 6 envelopes.  Students may bring their own small, sharp pointed, thin blade scissors.

Seating and materials are limited.  Reservations are needed in order to participate.  You may reserve your spot either in person or by phone at the adult reference desk.

This program is sponsored by the Friends of Kaimuki Public Library and is open to teenagers and adults.

All programs are subject to change.  If you require an auxiliary aid or accommodation due to a disability, please contact the library at least 7 days before the program date.
