The Molokai Arts Center, in partnership with Molokai Public Library, invites the community to attend a poetry writing workshop by Artist in Residence Dr. Mary Hattori, a native Chamorro of the island of Guam. Learn about and draw inspiration from artwork of Micronesia to incorporate and communicate cultural wisdom and values in your writing.
Dr. Hattori is the Director of the Pacific Islands Development Program at the East-West Center, she holds a B.Ed. and Professional Diploma in Secondary Social Studies with a concentration in Pacific Islands History, an M.Ed. in Educational Technology, and an Ed.D. in Professional Educational Practice from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. She is a community organizer and advocate for Pacific islanders in Hawaiʻi, co-organizer of cultural events such as the Annual Cultural Animation Film Festival and the Annual Celebrate Micronesia Festival. She is Affiliate Graduate Faculty of the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa and a lecturer for Chaminade University of Honolulu. Dr. Hattori is also an author, poet, public speaker, and philanthropist. She serves on the Hawaii Board of Education and Hawaii Council on Humanities.
