Please join the Kahuku Public and School Library as we host portrait artist Kimberly Keys and dancer/choreographer Sequoia Carr-Brown, two talented, local residents of O’ahu.

Not only does Kimberly Keys paint striking portraits of African American artists, historical and political figures, she also makes jewelry. Posting her much needed artwork online, she has been able to fulfill her goal of “celebrating cultural awareness and diversity” around the islands and beyond. Two years ago, Kimberly Keys’ portrait of First Lady Michelle Obama was included in a special exhibit at the Honolulu Hale created by the Obama Hawaiian Africana Museum in honor of our first African American President, Barack Obama.

EVENT UPDATE

Also, featuring a special dance performance titled “Reverence: Still Rising” by Sequoia Carr-Brown of StRaNgE FrUiT XPrEsS at 6:30pm. Her dance company’s mission is to engage the community through empowering outreach workshops designed to encourage more positive interactions within our diverse culture. Please note, Sequoia Carr-Brown’s performance was originally scheduled on January 28th. These presentations are part of the ongoing Black History in Hawai’i Series.
