Make Molokai Beautiful!

September 17, 2025 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

A smiling woman with peacock feathers in her hair and lei po'o on her head, wearing a scarf.

The community is invited to listen, learn from and share their views with local, Hawaii and international speakers about a variety of topics through the Global Citizenship Speaker Series.

This presentation features Molokai artist Kalaʻe Tangonan who will share her passion for using the visual arts to make Molokai even more beautiful. The program will feature stories behind the mammoth remuraling project at Molokai High School and how multimedia arts can help make Molokai the most beautiful island our hearts know is possible.

Kalaʻe Tangonan is a multi-media artist, a graduate of UH Hilo’s arts program, mother of nine, and community arts activist, providing everything from face painting at keiki fairs to hair and makeup for proms, from decorating for parties to lei making for funerals. Recently, she led a project to paint three 200-foot murals at Molokai High School, where she received her first formal arts training.

The speaker series is presented by the Molokai Bahá’í Community in collaboration with Molokaʻi Public Library to encourage conversations around global issues of importance to Molokai.
Everyone is welcome. Light refreshments will be served.

Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication, or a modification of policies or procedures to participate in a program, service, or activity should contact library staff as soon as possible. Advance requests 48 hours or more before the event are encouraged, but not required. All programs are subject to change. See a schedule of upcoming events on the HSPLS Events Calendar.
