IN THE PAST 30 YEARS, APPROXIMATELY 50% OF CORAL REEFS AROUND THE WORLD HAVE BEEN LOST. WITHOUT DRASTIC ACTION WE COULD LOSE 90% OF THE WORLD’S CORAL REEFS BY 2050.
Kuleana Coral is working to put degraded reef ecosystems on a path to resilience so they can per-sist naturally and without human intervention. Focusing on Hawaii’s coral reefs, Kuleana Coral takes direct action on three objectives: Coral Restoration, Reef Monitoring and Mapping, and Kule-ana Education/Outreach. Hear from co-founder Dr. Daniel DeMartini, PhD who will share more about their efforts.
The Coral Resilience Lab is the Legacy of Dr. Ruth Gates, an innovator and inspirational communicator who laid the foundation for their work. CRL broadly seeks to understand coral resilience in the face of changing climate. Outreach associate Maile Villablanca will present CRL’s work.
Hands on demonstrations, educational materials and activities will be provided to engage the entire family.
