Shikata Ga Nai, a phrase that means “It cannot be helped” in Japanese is also the title of an independent film that will have a special showing at Liliha Public Library.
It is 1999, and Tats is a WWII vet and member of the famed 442 Regimental Combat Team. Tats spends his time gardening, watching TV, and talking with an old army buddy. But the quietude in his life conceals his inner struggle. The war has been over for 50 years, but Tats relives it every day due to a haunting secret about his time in battle.
Inspired by the true life tendencies of many 442 veterans who have never shared their war experiences with family, Shikata Ga Nai shines a light on the interior battles that these aging heroes have had to face on their own.
Written & directed by Eric Nemoto and edited by Denny Hironaga, the film stars: Dann Seki, Denise Aiko Chinen, Devon Nekoba, Seth Okumura, and Allan Okubo. Some of the cast/crew will be available for a Q&A after the film showing.
