2023 Summer Reading Challenge kick-off event

This year we are celebrating Hawaii–our islands, environment, people, cultural heritage, literature, history, foods and arts.

The Hawaii State Library (Downtown Honolulu) will feature these exciting events!

  • Hawaii Youth Opera Chorus
  • Children’s Storytime
  • La Sorellanza singers
  • Keiki hula performance
  • Book bag tie dyeing session
  • Bokashi composting

There will also be some fun activity stations with the following organizations:

  • Friends of the Library of Hawaii
  • Hawaii State Federal Credit Union
  • Oahu Plant Extinction Prevention Program
  • State Department of Agriculture’s Plant Quarantine Branch
  • State Department of Land and Natural Resources’ Forestry and Wildlife Division
  • State Department of Health, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Division

Attendees who visit all of these activity stations and complete the Passport stamp card will receive a reward, while supplies last. Stamp cards will be available at the Summer Reading table in the main lobby and at all activity stations.
