Join us for a day filled with fun, music, and the joy of reading as we officially launch our Summer Reading Challenge! This year’s theme is “Mele”, celebrating the beautiful songs and stories of Hawai‘i.
9:00 AM-12:00PM | KEIKI & FAMILY ACTIVITIES
There will be fantastic array of activities like a Scavenger Hunt, storytime, and crafts. Enjoy performances by the Kailua Ballet Academy, the U.S. Pacific Fleet Band, and the Asian Lion Dance Team. Meet Lauryn Gordines, the local artist who created the 2025 Summer Reading “Mele” logo.
Got an old instrument collecting dust? Bring it to the Summer Reading Kick-off event! The Music For Life Foundation will be on-site collecting donations of used musical instruments—and they’ll gladly accept all types. Whether it’s a guitar, clarinet, violin, trumpet, or something more unique, your donation can help give a young person the chance to discover the joy of music.
Bring a camera and take a photo with Pono, the Nēnē, from 12noon to 2:00pm.
12:00-2:00PM | OUTDOOR CONCERT
Enjoy sounds of Ke‘olu Music and Kawao! These talented musicians will bring the spirit of “Mele” to life. Bring your folding chairs, kick back, and enjoy an afternoon of great music and good vibes.
Be sure to sign up for the Summer Reading Challenge! Dive into new adventures, discover captivating tales, and earn awesome rewards throughout the summer.
