Hawaiian History Talk Story- 50 Years After The Close Of Kohala Sugar

November 24, 2025 @ 5:30 pm - 6:50 pm

Art print of Kohala Sugar Plantation

Come listen to local historian Boyd Bond talk about the closing of Kohala Sugar 50 years ago.

“Kohala Sugar had a modest beginning back in 1863, and as the industry grew in the islands and in Kohala, many families arrived from different lands and became part of the 112 year history that ended in October of 1975. This change was foundational to this community, and on Monday evening we will trace the path of what happen next, taking a look back from today and examining what was kept and what was left behind, and then gaze ahead a little bit at what lies ahead.”

Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication or a modification of policies or procedures to participate in a program, service, or activity should contact library staff as soon as possible. Advance requests 48 hours or more before the event are encouraged, but not required. All programs are subject to change.
