Teen Movies Music Mayhem: Hairspray

July 17, 2025 @ 12:30 pm - 3:00 pm

hairspray 2007 movie poster

Set in Baltimore during the 1960s TV dance-show craze, Hairspray tells the story of zaftig high school “hairhopper” Tracy Turnblad as she graduates from outsider to celebrity trendsetter.  With the help of her friends and family, she stars on “The Corny Collins Show,” and kicks down the barriers to racial integration on local television—all without messing up her hair!

Get into the heart and spirit of this year’s summer reading challenge theme, mele, with some music-filled movies! From Disney Channel original movies to box office films, enjoy the journey that can only be found with the power of music. This program series is for teens and tweens, and will be held in the Meeting Room.

Some light refreshments and popcorn will be provided. Please feel free to bring your own treats as well.

This film is rated PG by the Motion Picture Association for strong language, some suggestive content and momentary teen smoking. Children under 14 are to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Mahalo to the Friends of Kaimukī Public Library for sponsoring this event.

Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication, or a modification of policies or procedures to participate in a program, service, or activity should contact library staff as soon as possible.
