The Public Access Room (PAR), the public’s office at the State Capitol, offers an overview of the Hawaii State Legislature and resources and tips on how residents can effectively make their voice heard to influence State laws.

The first hour will be a Q&A session and participants can pick up handouts of resource materials. The 2nd hour will consist of a PowerPoint presentation and time for discussion.

Presenter Virginia Beck is the Legislature’s Public Access Coordinator at the State Capitol’s Public Access Room (PAR), a division of the non-partisan Legislative Reference Bureau. She has worked with PAR over the last 10 years in a variety of positions and has additional experience with a variety of government, educational, and non-profit organizations. Virginia has a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and has been in Hawaii since 1997. She enjoys her role assisting people to effectively add their voices to the legislative process.

Program schedule is subject to change. Contact the library (10 days for Oahu; 15 days for neighbor islands) in advance to request a sign language interpreter or if special accommodations are needed.
