Learn about the Nisei soldiers of World War II through an interesting and informative four-panel exhibit which provides a brief history of the various military units, as well as information about several veterans who went on to become prominent leaders in Hawaii, including former Governor George R. Ariyoshi, U.S. Senator Spark M. Matsunaga and U.S. Senator Daniel K. Inouye. Picture books bring a child's world alive through pictures with wonderful illustrations and story lines. Throughout November, we celebrate picture books with a special find the author game. Children can read picture books of their choice by 18 talented writers and log them on a book log. After finding and reading the books, participants turn the logs in for special prizes. Now through November 30, come to the 2nd floor display case to view 37 hanaire (flower vases) crafted by members of Shofu Kai, a group of ceramists at the Hawaii Potters’ Guild who have been studying the artistry of utensils used in sadou (Japanese tea ceremony).  On the west side of the mezzanine, 8 upright panels inform visitors of the significance and types of hanaire as well as the ceramists' philosophy and approaches to their creations.
