Library Updates | May 23, 2020

Aloha Library Friends!

We are pleased to announce the statewide launch of Library Take Out at 47 of our 51 public libraries. Starting Tuesday, May 26th, library card holders may now schedule a Library Take Out appointment time to pick up their hold item(s) at their favorite library.

Here’s how it works:

1.Go to Library Catalog or call library branch to place a hold on the item(s) you would like borrow.

2. After receiving a notice that your item(s) are ready for pick up, you can schedule a Library Take Out appointment online with the library that is on the hold notice..

Already have a hold that has been waiting for you since we closed?
If you placed a hold before the closure, schedule a Library Take Out appointment to pick them up.

Library Take Out service is not available at the following libraries: Liliha, McCully, Pearl City and the Hawaii State Library. No book donations will be accepted at this time.

Although our buildings remain closed to the public for now, we are excited to offer Library Take Out as a convenient and safe way to access library books and materials. We appreciate the your patience as we continue to phase in our library services for the community.

Library Materials

We don’t want you to worry about fines and due dates during this stressful time while we are closed. Due dates and holds have been automatically extended.

  • All items (including DVDs and HotPicks) checked-out starting March 16th will have a new due date of June 15, 2020.
  • No fines will be charged for items due between February 26 and the time we re-open to the public. For holds that you placed that haven’t been filled, we are extending your requests to make sure you still get what you want after we reopen.
  • For holds that are already at your favorite library, we will continue to extend them, so you can pick them up after we reopen.
  • It is now possible to place HOLDS for future pick-up. You may receive an email that says that you have two weeks to pick-up, but we are extending all Holds requests to June 15, 2020.
