DESCRIPTION:Aloha pumehana kākou! Feel free to join us for our second Hawaiian 101 class at the Kaimukī Public Library. We are continuing the Basic Hawaiian Language class for those interested in learning ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi in a fun and engaging way. This class will be taught by Librarian Moki Renti Cruz who will incorporate Hawaiian songs as a tool to help build vocabulary and understand sentence structure. No prior music experience needed. \nPlease keep in mind this is a beginner level Hawaiian language class. If you’ve learned how to play Hanafuda from Helen Nakano and her Sensei\, now’s your moment to practice those skills in a friendly game. \nThis will be a relaxed\, self-directed play session—no formal instructions will be provided. SUMMARY:Obon Dance Workshop!
DESCRIPTION:Bon Season is upon us!  All are welcome to come and learn dances that are often danced at the bon dance; which for Hawai’i will be until October.  This program is fun for all ages and will be held in the Adult Reading Room! \nFor those of you who aren’t familiar with Bon Dances or Bon Odori\, it is an annual Japanese Dance Festival that occurs during Obon season in the Summer.  It is a celebration of family\, heritage\, tradition\, a celebration of life\, and a way to honor ones’ ancestors.  Children under 12 need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian. \nPlease bring water\, a sweat towel\, and comfortable footwear as we will be on our feet for most of the program.  Mahalo to the Hawaiʻi Shin Kobukai for doing this program for us!  Due to the limited space\, Pre-registration for this program is advised.
