SUMMARY:Manaʻu Tupuna: Ancestral Thoughts of Rapa Nui
DESCRIPTION:Join the women of Manaʻu Tupuna\, a cultural and performing group from the island of Rapa Nui (aka Easter Island) whose goal is to inspire maʻohi (native people) to stay connected to their indigenous roots. Under the direction of living human treasure\, Isabel Pakarati Tepano\, the multi-talented delegation is composed of musicians\, dancers\, carvers\, fiber artists\, and other artists/artisans. \n\n\nThey will share a small yet captivating sample of artistic manifestations. The dances and songs of Rapa Nui speak of ancestral stories\, ancient heroes\, the names of places and momentous events in their history as a people. After the performance\, participants will have the opportunity to learn kai-kai. \n\n\n\n\nFor all ages; young children must be accompanied by a parent or adult caregiver. \n\nMahalo nui to the Friends of the Libraries\, Kona (F.O.L.K.) for sponsoring this program! \n\n\nAnyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication\, or a modification of policies or procedures to participate in a program\, service\, or activity should contact library staff as soon as possible.
